11.30.08 The Trespass, Proverbs 30

"Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar."

Proverbs 30:6

Depending on how familiar you are with the bible, there are many misquotes or misintepretations to be found. If you are familiar with it you will spot these instances of abuse or misapplication.

We are cautioned against misusing scriptures. Scholars of the bible do find revelation in the scriptures and offer insights provided by the era and its history. Many novices claim that one can make the bible support anything and thus it is unreliable and that is their justification for not reading it. That thought process has become an old cliche.

Yes, there have been cults that have arisen out of a mis-applied bible by its teacher; thus, the preface of the Proverbs 30:6.

The bible is called the "Sword" in Christian circles. Swords have a long history in civilization, requiring training to offer protection and offensive confrontation of enemies (not a bad thing and a Godly calling). Similarly, one should train and study the bible to discover its true usefulness to one's life. Its rich history and relevance continues to make it applicable today. You don't have to be a bible scholar to read the bible. On your journey, you will learn many scriptures and how to apply them in your life.

"Sword of the Spirit"

Proverbs 30:5- "Every word of God is flawless, he is a shield to those who take refuge in him."

Have you ever read the bible and discovered a verse that seems to have been written just for you or stood out in a way that you know it applies to your life right then and there? I have. I have read the bible cover to cover; although I must admit that it took me about 2 years to do so. I have have read many sections of the good book many times over. Now, my reading is like a meandering journey to rediscover meanings. There is history, art, prophetic glimpses, modern application, and wisdom. As part of our life's journey should include bible reading in order to stay relevant and fresh and inspired to live life.
