12.6.08 Survive, Proverbs 6

"Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler."

Proverbs 6:5

Have you ever trapped yourself with your words? My daughters know my "yes" means "yes" and my "no" means "no." They have taken my "maybe" to mean "yes." If I tell my children "yes" they will hold me to it, no matter how much I would want to "try" to change their minds.

Similarly, in business or in life. The more one increases in influence, power, and responsibility, the stakes increase. Even in harmonious living in your neighborhood, one must be careful what they commit.

Life is challenging! To avoid traps, this Proverbs verse helps us to realize that when we have trapped ourselves or placed our future in danger, we need to work it out.

"The Way of the Master" - Adultery with Kirk Cameron

Proverbs 6:32 - "But a man who commits adultery lacks judgement; whoever does so destroys himself."

Now, I love beautiful women, God does amazing work. However, lusting after them is another matter. As a happily married man, I have had to learn to not be a "lustful admirer" of women and that has kept me out of trouble.

Now, that isn't to say that I am "dirt free". The Lord helps us to get out of the pit of a sinful life. That is a daily renewal and dedication. We want to keep that slate clean.

I do know friends who have admitted their addiction to pornography and they work hard to battle that addiction. Anyone can give into their lust, that is the easy thing. The harder thing is to develop defense mechanisms that protect our lives. That comes brick by brick. To preserve our families, we have to build up our protective barriers. We see the headlines and media coverage of adulterous disasters. We don't want to be a statistic. Pray for protection, wisdom, and discipline in purpose. The stakes are too high!

On Mission, On Assignment, and in the ZONE!
