Cooking Herbs
Do you have a curious mind? Today was a day of research for our family. The girls and I were thinking about taking an out of town trip but decided to stay home. Instead, we made an activity day to quench our minds on a few things we were curious about.
My eldest daughter and I brainstormed a list of things that we wanted to do. She and I got our yellow pad and pen and chatted about the day. Then we prioritized the list and then set out on our journey. Here is our quick list:
* Got gas (filled up) - the girls (Kayla and Kenna) love to go to the gas station with daddy
* Went through a car wash (the girls love this), Kayla and Kenna helped me dry the car.
* We picked up mommy and drove to a garden shop to do a little research on a herb garden that we want to start. I brought my digital camera a took pictures of various plants (i.e., sweet basil, thyme, sage, spearmint, oregano, etc.).
* Visited Best Buy to check pricing of a new plasma TV for the master bath (20" to 26") and take a look at a laptops.
* Ate lunch at Willie G's (an ice house type of restaurant chain)
* Stopped by Radio Shack for batteries for an old scientific HP calculator
* Purchased art supplies for the girls (i.e., sketch pad, moon sand, water colors, glue, and color markers).
We soon got tired and came home and the girls were busy for hours working on their art projects. We had our information that we wanted about each agenda item.
The point of the day is that we sat down, brainstormed, made a list, and then pursued our agenda. Tomorrow we plant our herbs (after I take a quick look on the internet on how to properly care for the plantings in the fall). We want to grow fresh herbs in the spring, but may have to nurture them indoors during the winter. The girls are excited about our plans to have homegrown spices for our dinners and salads. It is cool to plan the day, the way we did together and then act out our plan and then follow-up with the details to yield a result.
Proverbs 4:7 - "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Thought it cost all you have get understanding."
There is a cost for wisdom. If you aren't paying a price, then you may be doing something wrong. The benefit of wisdom gained is valuable. What example can you share, of how you purued wisdom and what cost?
Proverbs 4:8 - "Esteem her, and she will exalt you."
Make wisdom a top priority and she will exalt you. What does it mean to be exalted?
Proverbs 4:24 - "Put away perversity from your mouth; . . ."
I think this verse warns us to be careful. Even when we are joking. Sometimes we say things that may be innapropriate, even when we kid. This warns us against that.
Proverbs 4:26 - "Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm."
Plan your actions. Seek out secure paths. Know where you are going. I guess this applies even to a tight rope walker, a firefighter, a stockbroker, or a business owner. How does this apply in your life?
