"Come, let's make love all night, spend the night in ecstatic lovemaking!"

Proverbs 7:19

Ah! Got your attention. Proverbs 7 warns of the seductress. She's sweet, young, smells good, and beautiful. One indescretion shouldn't matter, many say. But, that makes all of the difference.

My young daughter asked me, "Daddy what is lust?" We were watching the movie "Fireproof." A father was explaining God's standards compared to ours to his son, who was battling for his marriage. My daughter was geniunely curious about the question.

We've made no subject off limits with our young curious daughters; however, we don't give them too many details, only what is appropriate for their age. I told my daughter that "lust is looking at another who is not your wife or husband in way that you 'want them' or does not honor God." Lust is the same as adultery by God's standards.

If God's standards are so high, do we just blow them off? Or do we seek to understand his decrees and commands, so that we might live forever.

Proverbs 7:27 - "She runs a halfway house to hell, fits you out with a shroud and a coffin."

After hearing the 19 second from hell from this video, I have to admit that I am and was concerned about my family, loved ones, and my friends. If this place is real (which I believe it is), I surely don't want anyone to be there, but sadly there will be many there who wished they had made a decision to follow Christ. Compared to eternity in hell, obedience on earth to God is a far better a price to pay.

Lady Danger, Proverbs 7

"Say to wisdom, 'You are my sister,' and call understanding your kinsman; they will keep you from the wayward wife with her seductive words."

Proverbs 7:5
There must have been many wayward wives back in the day of Solomon. Just like today. Where there are wayward wives, there are wayward men. Solomon makes a point to repeatedly warn against adultery and staying away from that danger.

I was watching TBN the other day and Pat Robertson was answering guestions from the viewers. One young man asked if it was a sin to have an affair with another girl even though he wasn't married, but had a girlfriend. Pat just shook his head and said "Young man, you have many problems. Sex outside of marriage is sin."

That is a hard pill to swallow in this day and age. His lady co-host chimed in and said that the guy just showed how "unscrupulous" he was. Meaning that his integrity was tied to his sexual behavior.

If God calls sex outside of marriage a "sin" I really can't argue. I am thankful to be in a committed marriage and not having to deal with the "dating" issues of the day.

Proverbs 7:25 - "Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths."

We are a soceity who believes in the "greater good". Many liberal ideologies are based on this premise, but many of the liberally minded fail to acknowledge biblical principles that truly set the "greater good". Even logic doesn't allow them to fathom the error of their decrees and beliefs. That is called a "spiritual blindness" among believers.

The notion that "abstinence" and "fidelity" strike many as "backward thinking" (not "progressive"); however, the "good" that is promoted actually causes much harm (i.e., hurtful relationships, diseases, jealousy, lower moral standards, deviancy, shallowness, etc.). I think Solomon warns us, that our "moral compass" is swayed and pulled away from the voice of God when we open up our heart to the "waywardness" of our nature.

The Hooker, Proverbs 7

"She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said . . ."

Proverbs 7:13

What did she say? Are you hooked? The origins of the name "Hooker" given to prostitutes is said to have originated in New York city prior to the civil war and possibly reinforced when General Hooker allowed his men to gallavant with the ladies of the evening. He allowed them to set up shop within the confines of the base and follow the boys on their way to war, collecting their military pay along the way.

Proverbs 7 warns young virile men to avoid these ladies on the prowl. The poor guy in this story never saw it coming. His curiosity got the best of him and he was no more.

Proverbs 7:24 - "Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her ways."

Are we tuning into the "God Channel"? Do we need a stethoscope or a some other device? What does the sound of our heart make? A burlesque show? A thief chase? A murder mystery? A family fued? An ever expanding adventure and glorious journey in search of the things of God like an "Indiana Jones" flick? What is the sound of your heart?

A Stranger to Holiness, Proverbs 7

". . . guard my teachings as the apple of your eye."

Proverbs 7:2

Do you feel far away from God today? Things just don't seem right. In my spirit, I feel very encouraged by the movement I see in the Kingdom. I worry for non-believers and believers who have succommed to the deception of the age.

Many have been praying to usher in a Godly direction for our nation and for the world, but it just seems that there are so many setbacks. We are engaged in a spiritual war, a hurricane of activity, and perils like never before. If you have been a stranger to holiness, it is past time to get focused. It is time to awaken to the battle we are engaged in. Darkness has no dominion over the body of Christ.

I have never felt the need to pray so strongly. The past two or three months, I have utterly been helpess to do much other than really seek and beg God to give me direction in my little part of the universe. My only desire is to kneel down and pray and to pray continously for our country, my family, my business, and my neighborhood. Guard your heart. Where is God leading you today? Draw near to him and he will draw near to you.

Proverbs 7:21 - "With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with smooth talk."

It is amazing to see how many who claim to be within the body of Christ can differ on their beliefs. For example, the plight of the unborn. Over 50 million unborn have been killed in the United States since Roe vs. Wade and yet many who claim to be a follower of Christ have voted in politicians who continue to allow abortions for any reason, at anytime. There is now a movement to allow it without the consent of a parent for girls age 12. Many of those same informed voters who support these hollow people, attend church regularly. Do they not hear the cries, do they not understand?

These procedures are getting more grotesque. The adultress of abortion has really gotten a hold of world opionion as well. The Lord detests the shedding of innocent blood and this underlying fester in our culture has yet to be dealt with. Until we stop this, I don't see how our country will be healed. 3,000 children will die today in America.

Proverbs 7:26 - "Now then, my sons, listen to me pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths."

There are many issues that assault the body of Christ and our pastors have been muzzled. They are not allowed to comment on political issues or may lose their tax exempt status. We need clarity, a strategy, a knitting of our corporate efforts. How else will we combat the darkness? Pray for Christian unity over the deceiver in these times. Jesus Christ is the hope of the world. We don't hear that often enough. Proclaim it today!

On Adultery, Proverbs 7

Oxen Lead to Slaughter

A hot topic for sure. It seems that the culture celebrates adultery, overlooking the ramifications and the hurt to families and nations (aggregately). It's intrigue is fertile ground and a danger to all men (secular and non-secular alike).

Sadly, many "family values" spokespeople wind up getting caught up in the snare and the mainstream enjoys pointing fingers and blaming the Christian church for their "obtuse" views of the destructive power of adultery. They themselves lose sight of the warnings.

The Christian man is not above falling into the trap mentioned in Proverbs 7. Adultery is a powerful force.

I am not going to preach here. Suffice to say, that I know that I need to be on gaurd against it. If prominent Christ followers can fall, then I know I can. If prominent politician and business leaders can fall, then we all can. It has happened from generation to generation and there has always been a cost somewhere down the line. A cost that no one really wants to pay.

Proverbs 7:21 - "With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk."

I think we often want to blame the woman for her seduction. I think men are easy targets. We get too close and we get the "deer in the headlights" look and it is all over. Keep your distance. We create our own situations.

Proverbs 7:22 - "All at once he followed her like an ox to the slaughter."

I think the observation made here is that the young man was already flirting with disaster and before he knew it, he fell. He could not resist the temptation. It's a strong warning, that we should not flirt with disaster either.

Solomon compares this meandering to an ox going to slaughter. The ox may not know it it is going to slaughter, but at some point, he might get a clue and get nervous.

An Ox is a very heavy animal. I imagine the slaughter is very bloody, with much noise and violence once the slaughtering process begins. Who holds the animal while it flails around? Afterward there is a chain of commerce and a feast somewhere along the line. The animal does not go to waste.

Proverbs 7:26 - "Many are the victims she has brought down;"

I guess we should take this as a warning that the line is long. The history is strong. The mathematical certainty has been tested.
